Vignette of the Moment: July 1st, 2008

This beautiful "wedding" themed vignette has been generously shared with us by Sherry of Sherry's Rose Cottage. Sherry says she "loves to decorate" and describes her style as "a combination of Romantic, Victorian & Cottage Chic. A few of the items I love & collect are chandeliers, vintage lace, gloves, compacts, millinery & wedding gowns. I use all of my treasures when creating my vignettes. My vignettes change often, as the older I get, the more change I want! It's so weird...I was the opposite when I was younger. If it looked good the first time, then I wouldn't change it for months!"

You can definitely see Sherry's flair for romantic decorating in this vignette. Since summer is the season for weddings, I thought this vignette seemed quite fitting. What speaks of romance more than a wedding? And this vignette is proof that even after the wedding is over...we can still enjoy the sentiment and beauty of it all. Why not break out that wedding dress you have stored away and dress up an old mannequin... group together a collection of vintage beaded handbags, tiaras, or old gloves...drape windows and walls with long white veils? While out scouring flea markets and thrift stores, you may just take a second look at those old cake toppers and long forgotten wedding decor. You might consider getting out your own wedding memories...by displaying your wedding invitation, a favor or two, and items saved from your special day...the romance from that day can come waltzing through your home...

Welcome to 'Romantic Vignettes: Vignette of the Moment' brought to you by Alice W. of Painted White. We have created this page to showcase beautiful home designs and to inspire our visitors. Our "Vignettes of the Moment" come from a variety of sources including: our own home & work space, fellow designers' homes, various boutiques, and from submissions by you!

"What is a vignette?," you may ask. The answer quite simply, is any decorative space set-up for the purpose of being pleasing to one's eye. Vignettes have always been a staple of elegant decorating, especially for romantic cottage lovers. It can be your mantel display for an upcoming holiday, a favorite collection set-up on an old bookshelf, an old pitcher filled with roses set upon linens and lace...it is quite simply, a "view" filled with beautiful things that you love.

Would you like to have your vignette featured?

If you have a gorgeous display that you would like to share with fellow vignette lovers, please email us your photographs, with your full name, a brief description of the vignette, and any links and/or other info you would like included in the write-up.

All photographs submitted should be of high quality and at least 600 pixels wide. Two to five images (from a distance and close-up of the details) is ideal. We reserve the right to edit them as we see fit, but you will be credited in the write-up if your vignette is chosen. Please do not send photos that are below size, fuzzy, unfocused, dark, or that have people in them - pets are welcomed though, so long as they do not interfere with the vignette image. Feel free to send in as many vignettes as you would like for submission, so long as they meet our criteria. **Important** If you will be submitting a holiday or seasonal vignette, please be sure to do so at least 2 weeks prior to the actual holiday/start of the season, otherwise they will be put on file for the next year. Thank you!
